10 years of Cadiss CADISS
Work in a university still remains, unfortunately, largely anonymous to the general public. Initiatives in scientific research in the humanities, where, with very little money, the temple of knowledge through culture is being built unceasingly, are, alas, so little known and, it seems, less and less appreciated today. That is why we are convinced that efforts to open up the academic citadel to the world must be much more consistent. These concerns are already a permanent feature at Suceve University.
In 2005, together with the late Prof. Vasile Dospinescu, reputed linguist, semiotician and didactician, together with Prof. I.C. Corjan and a whole team of enthusiastic researchers (Ioana-Crina Coroi, Cristina Stanciu, Nicoleta Moroșan, Evelina Graur, Corina Iftimia), to which many other colleagues and young PhD students joined, we launched the Center for Discourse Analysis within the Faculty of Letters and Communication Sciences of the “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava. This idea came as a result of the need to coagulate the concerns in the field of language sciences in a collective recognized by the organization of the International Colloquium of Language Sciences (since 1991), which was to become the itinerant Colloquium “Eugeniu Coșeriu” Suceava-Chisinau-Cernăuți (the 13th edition has just ended in Suceava), but also by the functioning of the Master’s Degree in Semiotics of Language in Media and Advertising (with an activity of 13 years, until 2014).
Since its foundation, the Discourse Analysis Research Center has aimed to bring together “forces” of society, together with university researchers, mostly linguists, with the generous objective of contributing to the development of a relatively young but very dynamic discipline, with pluri-, inter- and transdisciplinary valences, namely Discourse Analysis (DA). And because we also needed a “tribune” to disseminate the results of our research, the ANADISS journal of Discourse Analysis, financially supported by the university and published by the University of Suceava Publishing House, was established, the first issue of which appeared in 2006.
There followed years of dedication, of laborious research on topics such as Text, discourse, communication, Political communication, Text and discursivity, Discourse and didacticity, Inter-text, inter-discourse, Discourse and society, Linguistic imaginary and language dynamics, Production and reception of specialized discourse, Discursive perspectives and different cultural contexts, Knowledge and discourse, Discourse and identity.
The traditional thematic round tables were organized, with the participation of renowned specialists, including one of the founders of the field of discourse analysis, Professor Dominique Maingueneau (Paris), Suceavian Professors Rodica NAGY and Ioan Oprea, Michel Francard (Louvain-Belgium), Henri Boyer (Montpellier).
Several collective volumes have been published: Perspectives discursives: concepts et corpus, 2007, (authors: Sanda-Maria Ardeleanu, Raluca-Nicoleta Balațchi, Ioana-Crina Coroi, Nicoleta-Loredana Moroșan), Discours et images, 2009, (coord. Sanda-Maria Ardeleanu). Recently, (2015), a reference work for the entire Romanian space, Dicționar de Analiză de Discursului, coordinated by Prof. Rodica Nagy, PhD, was published, realized by a team of authors including members of CADISS.
CADISS has also carried out an important translation activity, in partnership with prestigious publishing houses such as: the European Institute Publishing House (Collection „Științele limbajului”), Casa Editorială Demiurg (Collection „Intelectuali români de expresie franceză”), Cartier Publishing House – Republic of Moldova. The CADISS collective has provided the Romanian public with specialized works included in the great bibliographies of the field: Jean-Michel Adam, Textele. Tipuri și prototipuri, Jean-Michel Adam, André Petitjean, Textul descriptiv, Jean-Michel Adam, Lingvistică textuală, Dominique Maingueneau, Discursul literar, Dominique Maingueneau, Analiza textelor de comunicare, Dominique Maingueneau, Lingvistică pentru textul literar, Dominique Maingueneau, Pragmatică pentru textul literar, Philippe Lane, Periferia textului.
The project „Francofonia românească. Restitutio” allows the realization of a book collection at the “Demiurg” Publishing House in Iași with Romanian French-speaking authors and unpublished works, some unknown or too little diffused, bilingual or monolingual editions, care of important texts for Romanian culture and civilization in the European context(N. Iorga: Latinii din Orient / Les Latins d’Orient, Portretele Domnilor Români/Les Portraits des Princes Roumains, Portretele Doamnelor Române/Les Portraits des Princesses Roumaines, Personnalités françaises/Personalități franceze).
The 20 issues of ANADISS have brought contributions from authors from four continents, the field of Discourse Analysis being richly represented by studies and research that contribute to the foundation of the Romanian School of Discourse Analysis, alongside the great European Schools, including the French, Anglo-Saxon and German. Young researchers, master’s and doctoral students, are a constant presence in the pages of ANADISS, the journal becoming a real springboard for the new generation of researchers in the field of language sciences.
I.C. Corjan, the editorial secretary lect. dr. dr. Ioana-Crina Coroi, the reading committee – lect. dr. dr. Corina Iftimia, lect. dr. Petru-Ioan Marian-Arnat, the scientific authority of the Scientific Committee (Acad. Marius Sala, Acad. Anatol Ciobanu, Johannes Kabatek, Carmen Alen Garabato, Henri Boyer, Maria Carpov, Philippe Lane, Dominique Maingueneau, Liviu Dospinescu, I.C. Corjan, Rodica Nagy, Ioan Oprea, Evelina Graur, Simona-Aida Manolache, Ioana-Crina Coroi, Nicoleta Moroșan, Dorel Fânaru, Marius Cucu) have determined the national (C category journal) and international (affiliated to seven international databases) recognition of our publication.
At this moment of stocktaking, I would like to thank all those who have invested time and passion in CADISS and ANADISS, which have become, after 10 years of existence, emblems of the quality of university research in Suceava.
Prof. univ. DHC Sanda-Maria ARDELEANU
